Linked double crochet

I recently made a blanket using the linked double crochet stitch as the border - it turned out soo nicely! A lot of people know about the double crochet stitch, but maybe not necessarily the linked double crochet stitch. It’s pretty easy & ends up looking nice & textured.

In this example, I’m using an 8mm crochet hook and Charisma “Mustard” yarn (size 5/bulky).

1. Chain 12. Starting in the third chain from the hook: dc in each stitch, chain one & turn (10)
2. Double crochet in the first stitch. Don’t wrap your yarn over your hook to start the next double crochet stitch like you normally would! Instead, insert your hook through the bar of the double crochet stitch

Once you’ve inserted your hook into the bar from the first double crochet stitch made - wrap the yarn over your hook & pull through the bar. This is basically the same thing as when you make a regular double crochet stitch (yarn over hook before inserting the hook into the stitch) - just a bit different because of the extra step added.

At this point, you’ll have two loops on your hook. Insert your hook into the second stitch & wrap the yarn over your hook & pull back through the stitch (like you would when you make a normal double crochet stitch).

Now you’ll have three loops on your hook - wrap the yarn over your hook & pull through two of the three loops.

You should have two loops on your hook at this point. Wrap the yarn over your hook & pull through the last two loops on the hook.

The first linked double crochet stitch is complete! Now, complete this step for the next 8 stitches (until you hit the end of the row).
